As part of your education and preparation for leaving secondary school after year 11 you are entitled to receive careers advice and transition support to help you to plan for the next few years.

There are many options available to students when they complete year 11 and it is the job of the CSW Adviser to guide you through these choices. 

If you have not already had contact from a CSW Adviser you should be contacted by them soon. They will set up a meeting to discuss post 16 options with you including further education.

If you already know what you would like to do from next September; the adviser can help to fill in application forms and discuss the next steps with you.

However, not all students know what they want to do next year. The CSW Adviser can support you in making these decisions. It might be a good idea for you and your family to look at the local college websites and maybe attend open evenings or days before the CSW Adviser meets you. All colleges have excellent websites as well as open days where you can look around and chat to staff about the various courses on offer. A list of open days is below.

It is very important that all students are given advice about what they want to do after their GCSE exams. The school leaving age has been raised from 16 to 18 for our current year 11’s. This means that it is necessary for you to be in learning; full time education, an apprenticeship, a traineeship or a job with structured training.
